The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 7.0, 97

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

If you set the LimitToList property of a combo box to Yes, and type a portion of an entry into the combo box and press ENTER, you may receive the following error message:

In Microsoft Access 7.0 and 97:

The text you entered isn't an item in the list.

In Microsoft Access 1.x and 2.0:

The text you enter must match an entry in the list.

The error occurs because there are duplicates in the list. For example, if you enter the value "co" in the combo box and the values "conf" and "cond" are in the drop-down list, the error occurs.
