SYMPTOMSWhen connecting to a remote Microsoft Access database under Internet Information Server 4.0 (IIS) using either a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) such as \\ComputerName\ShareName or a mapped drive, the following error may appear:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access 97 Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. RESOLUTIONTo work around this problem use one of the following three methods:
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
