The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2, version 3.0

In a Microsoft Excel custom dialog box, there is a limit to the maximum number of files that can be displayed in a linked list box:

  • In Microsoft Excel version 4.0, this limit is approximately 850 files.
  • In Microsoft Excel version 3.0, this limit is approximately 780 files.

NOTE: These numbers may vary depending on the length of the filenames being displayed.

When you create a custom dialog box in Microsoft Excel, one of the objects that can be added to the dialog box is a linked list box. A linked list box usually consists of a list box, which contains the names of files in the current directory, and a text box, which contains the name of the currently selected file.
