SUMMARY
Although you can create and recalculate a Microsoft Excel 4.0 crosstab
table in version 5.0, you will get the best results if you convert your
crosstab table to a PivotTable. To do this, follow the steps in the
"Converting a Microsoft Excel version 4.0 crosstab table to a pivot table"
topic. To view this topic, choose the Search button in Microsoft Excel Help

To use the Crosstab command to create a Microsoft Excel 4.0 crosstab table
in Microsoft Excel 5.0, you need to ensure that certain supporting files
are in the appropriate directories and then turn on the Use Microsoft Excel
4.0 Menus option in version 5.0.
NOTE: These steps cannot be used in later versions of Microsoft Excel, such
as Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0, Microsoft Excel 97, or
Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.
Using the Crosstab Command in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for the Macintosh
- If you installed Microsoft Excel 5.0 in the same folder as Microsoft
Excel 4.0, use the Finder to ensure that the files Crossfnc.xla,
Crosstab, and Crosstab Temp are located in the Crosstab folder of the
Macro Library folder. The Macro Library folder is located in the folder
in which you installed Microsoft Excel.

If you installed Microsoft Excel 5.0 in a separate folder, copy the
files Crossfnc.xla, Crosstab, and Crosstab Temp from your version 4.0
Crosstab folder to the Crosstab folder in your version 5.0 Macro Library
folder.
NOTE: If the Crosstab folder does not exist in your version 5.0 Macro
Library folder, you can copy the entire version 4.0 Crosstab folder to
the version 5.0 Macro Library folder.
To Add the Crosstab Command to the Format Menu
- On the Tools menu, click Add-ins.
- Click Browse.
- Select the Crosstab folder, in the Macro Library folder (in the
Microsoft Excel folder). Select the Crosstab file, and click Open.
- The Crosstab ReportWizard check box should now be selected in the
Add-ins Available list. Click OK.
The Crosstab command is added to the Format menu. You can now use this
command in Microsoft Excel 5.0.
To Use the Crosstab Command From the Data Menu
- In Microsoft Excel 5.0, click Options on the Tools menu.
- In the Options dialog box, select the General tab.
- Under Menus, select the Microsoft Excel 4.0 Menus check box and click
OK.
- On the File menu, click Open.
- Open the Macro Library folder (in the Microsoft Excel version 5.0
folder). Open the Crosstab folder.
- In the list of files, select Crosstab, and click Open.
When you open Crosstab, the Crosstab command is added to the Data menu. You
can now use this command in Microsoft Excel 5.0.
Using the Crosstab Command in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for Windows
- If you installed Microsoft Excel 5.0 in the same directory as
Microsoft Excel 4.0, use File Manager to ensure that the following
files are in the specified directories:
- XLCALL.DLL should be in the directory where you installed Microsoft
Excel (this file must be in the same directory as the EXCEL.EXE
file).

- CROSSFNC.XLA, CROSSTAB.XLL, and CROSSTMP.XLT should be in the
CROSSTAB subdirectory of the LIBRARY directory. The LIBRARY
directory is located in the directory in which you installed
Microsoft Excel.

If you installed Microsoft Excel 5.0 in a separate directory, copy
the XLCALL.DLL file from your Microsoft Excel 4.0 directory to your
version 5.0 directory. Copy CROSSFNC.XLA, CROSSTAB.XLL, and CROSSTMP.XLT
to the CROSSTAB subdirectory in your Microsoft Excel 5.0 LIBRARY
directory. These files are located in the CROSSTAB subdirectory of your
version 4.0 LIBRARY directory.
NOTE: If the Crosstab subdirectory does not exist in your Microsoft
Excel 5.0 LIBRARY directory, copy the entire CROSSTAB subdirectory from
your version 4.0 LIBRARY directory to your version 5.0 LIBRARY
directory.
To Add the Crosstab Command to the Format Menu
- On the Tools menu, click Add-ins.
- In the Add-ins Available list, select the Crosstab ReportWizard
check box. Click OK.
The Crosstab command is added to the Format menu. You can now use this
command in Microsoft Excel 5.0.
To Use the Crosstab Command From the Data Menu
- In Microsoft Excel 5.0, click Options on the Tools menu.
- In the Options dialog box, select the General tab.
- Under Menus, select the Microsoft Excel 4.0 Menus option and click OK.
- On the File menu, click Open.
- Under Directories, switch to the CROSSTAB subdirectory in the LIBRARY
directory.
- Under File Name, select CROSSTAB.XLL and click OK.
When you open CROSSTAB.XLL, the Crosstab command is added to the Data
menu. You can now use this command in Microsoft Excel 5.0.
