The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0

SUMMARY

When you use the AutoFilter command to filter data, the resulting drop-down list of unique items is limited to 251 identifiers. If the number of unique identifiers in a list is extremely large, you may receive "Not Enough Memory" errors or your computer may stop responding (hang).

NOTE: The limit for Microsoft Excel version 7.0 is 250 due to the addition of one more built-in list item ("Top 10").
