Q+E Makes Microsoft Excel File Read-OnlyLast reviewed: September 12, 1996Article ID: Q107875 |
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a
SUMMARYIf you access an open Microsoft Excel file in Q+E and return to Microsoft Excel to save the file, Microsoft Excel loses Read/Write privileges to the file and the Save As Dialog Box appears. If you try to save the file with the original name, the "Cannot Access Filename" error message appears, and you need to save the file with a new name.
Expected BehaviorBecause Microsoft Excel opened the file first, it should retain Read/Write privileges to the file. When you choose the Save command from the File menu, the file should be saved without displaying the Save As dialog box.
MORE INFORMATIONQ+E exhibits the same behavior with a Microsoft Word text file: it overrides Word's rights to the file even thought it was opened in Word first.
