Excel: Multiple Links Between Excel and Word Cause GP FaultLast reviewed: September 12, 1996Article ID: Q109794 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel version 4.0, if you create a workbook that contains an inserted Microsoft Word 2.0 object and that Word object contains linked cells from a worksheet in that same Microsoft Excel workbook (as in the following example)
--------- -------------------------- ------------------------ |Sheet1 |< |Embedded Word 2.0 object |< |Linked cells from Sheet1| | in | -------------------------- ------------------------ |workbook | ---------you may receive a general protection (GP) fault when you save the workbook and choose Yes when prompted to "Update embedded objects?"
RESOLUTIONMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in linked Microsoft Word 2.0 objects and Microsoft Excel 4.0. Microsoft object linking and embedding (OLE) 2.0 should resolve this problem because you will not be prompted to update embedded objects.
