SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel 5.0, you can usually select a control or object to edit it by pressing the CTRL key and clicking the control or object. However, this method will not work if you want to select an Extend List Box control.

MORE INFORMATION

The purpose of an Extend List Box in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 is to allow you to select multiple items in a list by pressing the CTRL or SHIFT keys while selecting the items; therefore, by design, pressing the CTRL key and clicking the list box will not select it.

To select the extend list box for editing, use any of the following methods.

Method 1

Position the insertion point over the list box and click the right mouse button. This will select the list box and will also display the shortcut menu that contains the Format Object command.

Method 2

Type the name of the control or object in the name box (located to the left of the formula bar). For example, you could type "circle 1" or "list box 2" (without the quotation marks) in the name box and then press enter.

Method 3

If another object or control is already selected, press the TAB key to cycle through all objects in the document.

To select all objects and controls on the document:

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Go To.

  2. In the dialog box that appears, choose the Special button.

  3. Select the Objects option and choose OK.

Method 4

Do the following to use the Drawing Selection tool to select the object or control:

  1. From the View Menu, choose Toolbars.

  2. Ensure that the Drawing toolbar is selected, and choose OK.

You can now use the Drawing Selection tool on the Drawing toolbar to select an object by choosing the Drawing Selection tool and then dragging around the object with your mouse.
