The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows version 5.0

SUMMARY

When you install Microsoft Excel, the [Microsoft Query] section of the Msquery.ini file, which is located in the Microsoft Windows folder, will contain the following MSQuery-specific information (depending on the choices you make at the time you install the program):

[Microsoft Query]      <---Heading

Tutorial=0             <---Refers to Cue Cards

AutoDisconnect=0       <---("0" = off, "1" = on)
                            Query disconnects from back end when query
                            window is closed.*

Records=X              <---Limits the number of
                           records that can be fetched.

tooltips=0             <---("0" = off, "1" = on)

Note that you cannot change the option for automatic query update by editing the .ini file.

*Does not apply to returning data to Excel with XLQUERY.XLA. The connection is always closed if you return data to Excel with XLQUERY.XLA, even though MS Query is still running."

The section of the .ini file following the [Microsoft Query] section will contain a list of all installed data sources. An example of this section is shown below.

[Data Sources]

NWind= FoxPro Files= Paradox Files= dBASE Files=
