Incorrect Margin Using Fit To Scaling Option with PostScriptLast reviewed: September 13, 1996Article ID: Q114956 |

SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel, when you use the Fit To scaling option to fit your worksheet on a certain number of pages, the scaling factor may be incorrect, causing an incorrect right margin.
CAUSEThis behavior occurs when you use a PostScript printer driver, such as the Apple LaserWriter, or the HP LaserJet IIISi PostScript driver. This problem does not occur with all worksheets; the size of the worksheet and the number of pages you enter in the Fit To box also affect this behavior. Note that this behavior also occurs when you are running the Windows NT operating system.
WORKAROUNDTo correct this behavior, you can manually choose a scaling percentage value that gives the correct margin for the worksheet. For example, if you choose the Fit To option, and the set percentage (for example, 37%) causes a right margin that is too large, you can change the scaling factor to a larger number to decrease the right margin. Do the following to set the scaling factor:
Microsoft Excel version 5.0
Microsoft Excel version 4.0
Note that this behavior does not occur when you use a non-PostScript printer, such as the HP LaserJet III.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
