XL5: No Option to Save/Not Save Password with MSQuery Add-inLast reviewed: September 12, 1996Article ID: Q118754 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel, when you use the Get External Data command to link to a query in Microsoft Query, the dialog box that appears when you return to Microsoft Excel does not contain a password option; that is, you do not have the option to keep the password with your data.
CAUSEWhen you load or open the Microsoft Query add-in (XLQUERY.XLA) in Microsoft Excel, the Get External Data command is added to your Data menu. However, if you use a data source that has a password, and you then return the data to Microsoft Excel, the add-in does not give you the option of either keeping the password with the data (so that you do not have to enter it again each time you refresh the data) or not keeping the password.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows version 5.0c.
