SUMMARY

When you install Microsoft Excel version 5.0c, the Share utility is installed on your computer. The Share utility is required to run Microsoft Excel. It is used in OLE operations.

MORE INFORMATION

If you are running Microsoft Windows version 3.1 or Microsoft Windows for Workgroups version 3.1 in Standard mode, and you are not running the Share utility, the SHARE command is added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file as in the following example:

   <path>\SHARE.EXE /L:500 /F:5100

where <path> is the drive and directory where the SHARE.EXE file is located (usually the MS-DOS directory). For example, if your MS-DOS directory is called DOS and is on drive C, add the following line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

   C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE /L:500 /F:5100

If you are running Microsoft Windows version 3.1, or Microsoft Windows for Workgroups (version 3.1 or 3.11) in 386 enhanced mode, the following occurs if the Share utility is not already loaded on your computer:
  • The file VSHARE.386 is installed in the SYSTEM subdirectory of your Microsoft Windows directory.

    -and-

  • The following line is added to the [386Enh] section of your SYSTEM.INI file:

          device=vshare.386
