XL5: Line of Text in Text Box Only Partially Selected

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you select text in a text box on a zoomed worksheet, some of the lines that you select are only partially highlighted.

CAUSE

This behavior only occurs when the magnification factor for the worksheet is set to a value other than 100%. As you select lines in the text box, some of the lines are only partially selected, whether you use the mouse, or keyboard to select the text. The top half of the line appears selected, while the rest of the line does not.

WORKAROUND

To avoid this incorrect selection behavior, when you change the magnification factor, you can minimize Microsoft Excel while the text box is selected, and then maximize the application again. This procedure allows Microsoft Excel to draw the selection correctly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in a later version of Microsoft Excel.
