.DBF Table Created in MSQUERY not Recognized in dBASE III/III+Last reviewed: September 12, 1996Article ID: Q121523 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Query, when you save a query as a dBASE III table, you are unable to open the table file in dBASE III or dBASE III+ if the file contains more than 128 fields. The applications do not recognize the table as a dBASE file.
CAUSEThis behavior occurs because Microsoft Query is able to handle a dBASE table that contains more than 128 fields. When you create a query using the dBASE III data source, you can add a table, and add all of the fields from the table, even if the table contains more that 128 fields. However, if you save a query that contains more than 128 fields as a dBASE III table in Microsoft Query, you cannot use the table in dBASE III or dBASE III+.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, make sure that your query contains less than 128 fields before you save the query as a dBASE III table.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
