XL5: GP Fault Using Add-in Functions with the Function Wizard

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel 5.0 for Windows, you will receive a general protection (GP) fault if you choose the Finish button in the Function Wizard before entering the required arguments for any of the functions included in the Microsoft Query (XLQUERY.XLA) or ODBC (XLODBC.XLA) add-ins. Below is the message you will receive

   Application Error
EXCEL caused a General Protection Fault in module EXCEL.EXE at 00A5:xxxx

where xxxx may vary.

MORE INFORMATION

The Function Wizard helps you insert functions by listing all available functions and their required arguments. The Function Wizard is context sensitive: when you type the function name in a cell, and choose Function from the Insert menu, the last step of the Function Wizard appears with the required arguments for the function. If you use this context-sensitive method and choose the Finish button without entering a required argument, you will receive a GP fault.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows version 5.0c.
