The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you create a chart using the ChartWizard, the following symptoms may occur:

  • In the Doughnut sample chart that appears in the ChartWizard--Step 2 of 5 dialog box, there is a redraw problem in the center of the chart.

    -or-

  • When you create a 3-D chart, the chart Floor element is yellow, instead of the expected color dark gray. If you display the Format Floor dialog box (either by double-clicking the chart floor or by selecting the chart floor and clicking Selected Floor on the Format menu) the color selected for the floor element is dark gray as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you are using the Diamond Stealth VRAM HiColor video card. This behavior has been reported to occur if you are using the S3 Inc. 911/924 video driver with the 640x480xTrue Color (16-bit) setting.

The problem does not occur using the 640x480x256 setting.

RESOLUTION

To avoid these redraw problems in Microsoft Excel, you can adjust the way that Windows uses your graphics hardware by doing the following:

  1. Right click the My Computer icon on the desktop.

  2. Click Properties.

  3. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Performance tab.

  4. Click the Graphics button.

  5. Adjust the Hardware Acceleration slider two notches to the left of Full (one notch to the right of None). Click OK.

  6. In the System Properties dialog box, click OK.
