SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Copy Picture command to paste a pie chart from Microsoft Excel to Microsoft Word, the data in your chart will be represented in four equal parts regardless of how the data in the original chart was distributed.
CAUSEThis problem occurs if you create a pie chart in Microsoft Excel and use the Copy Picture command to paste it to a Microsoft Word document and then go to MSDraw by double-clicking the chart in Microsoft Word.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, use the either of the following methods. Method 1: Use the following steps to paste the pie chart into Microsoft Word as an Embedded Object (note that if you use this workaround, you cannot add drawing objects to your chart): a. Create a pie chart in Microsoft Excel. b. Click once on the chart. Choose Edit from the menu bar and then choose Copy. c. Switch to Microsoft Word and choose Edit and then choose Paste Special. Select Microsoft Excel 5.0 Chart Object. Microsoft Word allows you to edit the chart as if you were in Microsoft Excel.Method 2: Use the following steps to copy the pie chart into Microsoft Word as a Bitmap: a. Create your chart in Microsoft Excel. b. Click the pie chart once to select it. While holding the shift key down, click the Copy Picture on the Edit menu. The Copy Picture dialog box will appear. c. For the Appearance option, select As Shown On Screen. For the Format option, select Bitmap. d. Switch to Microsoft Word. Click Paste on the Edit menu. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base when it becomes available.
