SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel, when you click a selected cell while holding down the CTRL key, the value in the cell is added to the AutoCalculate value displayed on the status bar.
CAUSEThe AutoCalculate feature behaves like the =SUM() function: when you click a cell while holding down the CTRL key, the value in the cell is added to the AutoCalculate result, even if the cell was already selected. The AutoCalculate feature in Microsoft Excel displays the sum (or average, count, count nums, max, or min) of the selected cells. However, when you hold down the CTRL key and click a cell on your worksheet, the value in the cell is added to the AutoCalculate result, even if the cell is already selected. For example, if you select cells A1:A2, the AutoCalculate feature displays the sum (by default) of the values in cells A1:A2 on the status bar. If you then hold down the CTRL key, and click cell A1, the value in cell A1 is added to the result displayed on the status bar, although the cell selection has not changed.
