The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen Windows 95 is set up to suppress filename extensions (that is, the "Hide MS-DOS File Extensions For File Types That Are Registered" check box is selected), files that are saved with the same name but with different filename extensions may appear to be duplicate filenames in the Recently Used area on the File menu.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, use the following steps to clear the "Hide MS- DOS File Extensions For File Types That Are Registered" check box:
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
