Last reviewed: September 13, 1996
Article ID: Q135719
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Query for Windows 95, version 2.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Query, when you use the mouse to size a column heading in the Data pane, you may receive an Illegal Operation error message. If you click Details, a message similar to the following is displayed:

MSQRY32 caused an invalid page fault in module MSQRY32.EXE at
   0137:00432181

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you size a column heading in the Data pane before you add any fields to the query. For example, this problem occurs when you create a new query, do not add a table to the query, and you then use the mouse to size the empty column heading that appears by default in the Data pane.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, add a field to your query in the Data pane before you size a column heading.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
