  • Microsoft Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you print white text on a dark background to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) PaintJet XL 300 printer using the Helv screen font, the text is not printed.

CAUSE

The Helv screen font is mapped to the Univers printer font. Because the font is drawn before the color background (due to the Unidrv.dll's banding) the text is hidden.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Arial (True Type) font rather than The Helv screen font. The PaintJet XL 300 printer prints True Type fonts as Graphics.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Unidrv.dll, version 4.00.950 for Windows 95. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
