The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you install Microsoft Excel, the files Msexcel4.xlm and Msexcel5.xls which are installed by WinFax Pro are removed from your Xlstart folder.
CAUSEThis is by design of the Microsoft Excel Setup program. The files Msexcel4.xlm and Msexcel5.xls contain macros that allow you to fax a worksheet from within Microsoft Excel version 4.0 or 5.0. These files are not compatible with Microsoft Excel version 7.0. If the Msexcel4.xlm file is located in your Xlstart folder when you start Microsoft Excel version 7.0 or Microsoft Excel 97, new workbooks begin opening repeatedly until Microsoft Excel runs out of memory. For additional information, please see the following article(s) in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
ARTICLE-ID: Q136874 TITLE : XL: New Workbooks Open Repeatedly Starting Excel MORE INFORMATIONWinFax Pro is manufactured by Delrina Technology, Inc., a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. The following information is taken from the Microsoft Excel 7.0 Xlreadme.txt file:
[Important Note for Delrina WinFax Pro 4.0 Users ] WinFax Pro installed two Microsoft Excel files for use with Microsoft Excel version 4.0 and Microsoft Excel version 5.0: MSEXCEL4.XLM and MSEXCEL5.XLS respectively. These files are incompatible with Windows 95, Windows NT, and Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0. If you installed Microsoft Excel for Windows 95 over Microsoft Excel 4.0 or 5.0, Setup removed these incompatible files from your \Excel\XLSTART directory. Removing them was necessary in order to prevent them from causing problems with Microsoft Excel 7.0, such as files being repeatedly opened until Microsoft Excel would run out of memory. These files were designed to work with Windows 3.1 and not with Windows 95. Contact Delrina for information about versions of these files that will be compatible with Microsoft Excel for Windows 95.This same information also applies to Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows.
