The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 4.0, 5.0
  • Microsoft Access 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Access for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Access for Windows, version 2.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you create a link to a Microsoft Access query, the query is not updated dynamically. That is, when you change the query in Microsoft Access, the linked information is not automatically updated in Microsoft Excel, even if both files are open in memory at the same time.

CAUSE

Microsoft Excel automatically updates data only in the Microsoft Access data source (that is, the table the query is built on); it does not automatically update the query.

WORKAROUND

To update a link from Microsoft Excel to a Microsoft Access query, close the dependent workbook and then re-open it.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
