XL5: "Not Enough Memory" Message When You Save a Workbook

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to save a workbook in a folder that has more than 702 subfolders, you may receive an "out of memory" error message.

This message consists of a "Microsoft Excel" title, the text "Not enough Memory," and an OK button.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem:

  • Save your file to a folder that has fewer than 702 subfolders

    -or-

  • Reduce the number of subfolders in the folder that you want to save the file to.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0.

Note that this problem does not occur in Microsoft Excel for Windows NT, version 5.0.
