XL: Wrap Text Does Not Adjust Row Height

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, if you manually modify the height of a row, and you then format a cell in that row to Wrap Text, Microsoft Excel does not change the height of the row to accommodate all of the text in the cell.

CAUSE

This problem will occur if you have manually modified the height of the row.

WORKAROUND

To adjust the height of the row to accommodate all of the text in a cell, do the following:

  1. Select the row.

  2. On the Format menu, point to Row, and then click AutoFit.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of the versions of Microsoft Excel listed at the beginning of this article.
