The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c

SYMPTOMS

When a pie chart is printed from Microsoft Excel, the border of the largest pie slice may be missing. This behavior may occur even if the border appears on your screen and in print preview.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true:

  • One slice of the pie is greater than 50 percent of the entire pie.

    -and-

  • Any version of the HP LaserJet Series II or compatible Windows printer driver is being used.

    -and-

  • The border of the data series (pie slices) is set to the thickest or next to thickest weight.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Change the border weight of the pie slices:

          a. With the pie chart active, click once on one of the pie slices
to select the data series. You will see the SERIES formula in
             the formula bar.

          b. On the Format menu, click Selected Data Series, and then click
             the Patterns tab.

          c. Click the Weight list in the Border group and click one of the
first two choices in the list.

Method 2: Change the Active Printer:

          a. On the File menu, click Print.

          b. Click Printer Setup, click another printer, and then click OK.

          c. Click OK to print or click Cancel to return to Microsoft Excel
             without printing.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel version 5.x for Windows. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for Windows NT and Microsoft Excel version 7.0 for Windows 95.
