SUMMARY

Double-line borders in spreadsheets created in Microsoft Excel for Windows do not preview or print properly on Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet printers if you enable gridlines to print. The double-line borders fall on the edge of the printable area, preventing them from being printed.

WORKAROUND

Turn off the gridlines to prevent them from being printed. Listed below are the ways to turn off gridlines and apply borders for the given version of Microsoft Excel. The borders are used instead of gridlines.

Microsoft Excel versions 3.0 and 4.0

  1. On the Options menu, click Display and click to clear the Gridlines check box.

  2. Select the range of cells that are being printed. On the Format menu, click Border, and then click Left, Right, Top, and Bottom, using the single line to replace your gridlines.

  3. Click Outline and select the double line from the Style area.

Microsoft Excel version 5.0

  1. On the File menu, click Page Setup. Click the Sheet tab and click to clear the Gridlines check box.

  2. Select the range of cells that are being printed. On the Format menu, click Cells. Click the Border tab, and then click Left, Right, Top, and Bottom, using the single line to replace your gridlines.

  3. Click Outline and select the double line from the Style area.
