QuickTime Movies Do Not Print on HP DeskWriter 550 Printer

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a
  • Microsoft PowerPoint for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Excel and print to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskWriter 550 printer, a blank object is printed in place of a QuickTime movie object.

In Microsoft PowerPoint, blank objects are not printed in place of the QuickTime movie objects.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if there are two or more QuickTime movie objects embedded on the same page in the document.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

When you embed two QuickTime movie objects, where one object is vertically aligned beneath the other object, the lower object fails to print. A blank object is printed instead.

The movie object that is positioned closest to the upper left corner is printed. If you position the lower object closer to the upper left corner, the newly positioned object is printed and the other object (originally closer to the upper left corner) is not printed.

When you view a slide in Print Preview in PowerPoint, only the object closest to the upper right corner of the slide appears. All other movie objects are not visible.

QuickTime is manufactured by Apple Computer, Inc., a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
