SYMPTOMS

The Add to List button in the Advanced Find dialog appears dimmed when you use a numeric, date, or time Property and specify a Condition between two values, dates, or times.

CAUSE

When you specify a criteria that falls between two values, the word "and" must be used to separate the two values, dates, or times.

The following example finds all files created between August 1, 1996 and August 15, 1996.

  1. In Microsoft Excel 97, click Open on the File menu.

  2. Navigate to a folder that has several .xls files.

  3. Click Advanced.

  4. Choose "Creation Date" in the Property box.

  5. Choose "anytime between..." in the Condition box.

  6. Type "8/1/96" in the Value box. Notice the Add to List button still appears dimmed.

  7. Click in the Value box and type "8/1/96 and 8/15/96"

  8. the Add to List button is now available.

You can use it to find files based on advanced criteria such as the date a file was created, last printed date, size in bytes, number of pages, number of characters within a filename, author name, strings of text within a file, and so forth.
