SYMPTOMSWhen you click Chart Type on the Chart menu, and then click the Custom Types tab, you may receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.If you click Details, a message similar to the following appears:
EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module EXCEL.EXE at 0137:300af7a2. CAUSEThis problem occurs when either of the following conditions is true:
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, follow these steps to remove the password protection from the Xl8galry.xls or the Xlusrgal.xls file:
If you delete the Xlusrgal.xls file, you lose any custom chart formats that you created. If you delete the Xl8galry.xls file, you can recreate the file only by using the following steps:
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATIONXl8galry.xls stores custom chart formats that come with Microsoft Excel 97. Xlusrgal.xls stores any custom chart formats that you create. Microsoft Excel does not create Xlusrgal.xls until you create a custom chart format.
