XL97: Insertion Code for Internet Assistant Is Case Sensitive

SYMPTOMS

If you are using the Internet Assistant Wizard, and you specify an existing HTML file into which you want to insert your Microsoft Excel table, you may receive the following error message, even if the string mentioned in the message already exists in your HTML document:

   The string "<!--##Table##-->" is not present in the file you selected.
   You need to use your Web browser or a text editor to insert the string
   into your HTML source file. This will specify exactly where the
   converted data should be placed.

CAUSE

Because the Internet Assistant Wizard is case sensitive, you may receive the error message mentioned in the "Symptoms" section if the string in your HTML document is not capitalized exactly as it is in the error message. For example, if you have the following string in your existing HTML document

   <!--##TABLE##-->

RESOLUTION

Because the Internet Assistant Wizard is case sensitive, the string specifying the insertion point for your Microsoft Excel data should be exactly as follows:

   <!--##Table##-->

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

The Internet Assistant Wizard is not new to Microsoft Excel, but it has changed significantly since it was released as a free add-in available on the Microsoft World Wide Web site in January 1996. The Internet Assistant Wizard is now an installable component of Microsoft Office and/or Microsoft Excel and has been enhanced to take advantage of the new Internet features of Microsoft Office, Microsoft FrontPage, and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

With the Internet Assistant Wizard, you can leverage existing Microsoft Excel spreadsheet data to create and distribute documents that can be viewed online with a Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer. By clicking a series of buttons in the wizard, you can convert spreadsheet data to HTML format either as a separate Web document or into an existing Web document.
