SYMPTOMSWhen you attempt to create a user-defined custom chart type in Microsoft Excel 97, the following error message appears:
Microsoft Excel cannot save the user-defined chart gallery in the folder specified. Save the gallery elsewhere now, and use the Gallery Location tool to specify a different folder.When you click OK, you are prompted to save the Xlusrgal.xls file in the default documents folder (usually C:\My Documents).
CAUSEThis problem occurs when you do the following:
RESOLUTIONTo correct this problem, install Microsoft Excel 97 Service Release 1 (SR-1).
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 97. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel SR-1. For additional information about SR-1, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

With a custom chart type, you can specify the custom formatting and options you want to include for a particular chart style. The gallery location tools allow you to specify where Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Graph look for custom chart gallery files. You can obtain this free utility on the Web.
