The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel 97, when you open a workbook, some of the formatting that is applied to a cell comment in the workbook is lost.
CAUSEThis problem occurs if you share the workbook by clicking Share Workbook on the Tools menu and selecting the check box in the Editing tab of the Share Workbook dialog box. If the workbook is shared and you save and close the workbook, certain kinds of formatting that is applied to comments are not retained.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATIONIn Microsoft Excel 97, you can apply many kinds of formatting to text in a cell comment. However, when you share a workbook, only bold and italic comment formatting is retained. When you save and close a shared workbook, all of the following formatting is lost:
Font Font Size Font Color Underline Double Underline Strikethrough Superscript SubscriptIf you unshare the workbook, all comment formatting is retained when you save and close the workbook.
