The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 97, if you double-click a series in a chart in a worksheet, and then click the Options tab in the Format Data Series dialog box, the sample chart that appears in the dialog box may not display some or all of the drawing objects or AutoShapes in the chart.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when any of the following conditions is true:

  • The width or the height of the embedded chart is less than 200 pixels.

        -or-

  • The drawing objects or AutoShapes are located at the right edge or the bottom edge of the chart.

RESOLUTION

Even though the sample chart does not appear correctly in the Format Data Series dialog box, the drawing objects and AutoShapes appear in the chart and are printed correctly.

To resolve this problem, resize the chart so that its height or width is larger than 200 pixels or move the drawing objects and AutoShapes away from the right or bottom edge of the chart.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
