SYMPTOMSMenus in Microsoft Excel may become hard to read and use. Submenus may become separated from the parent menu or command, and you cannot select a menu command on a submenu.
CAUSEThis behavior occurs if all of the following conditions are true:

Method 1: Set the Command Underline Option to Automatic or OffTo disable Command Underline, follow these steps:
Method 2: Turn off "System-wide platinum appearance"To disable "System-wide platinum appearance," follow these steps:
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. The problem is corrected in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.
