MXL5: Control+Click Causes MS Excel to Temporarily Lose Focus

SYMPTOMS

When you click a cell, and then press Control, Microsoft Excel may lose focus, and the shortcut menu may not be displayed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if all of the following conditions are true:

  • Mac OS 8.0 is installed.

    -and-

  • Internet Address Detectors is installed.

    -and-

  • You are using the Contextual Menu Enabler extension.

NOTE: The installer program for Internet Address Detectors (IAD) installs the Contextual Menu Enabler extension that interprets the CONTROL+CLICK combination.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior in Microsoft Excel, disable the Contextual Menu Enabler extension, and then restart the computer.

Internet Address Detectors installs an extension called Contextual Menu Enabler that intercepts the CONTROL+CLICK combination and causes the active program to copy the currently selected text to the Clipboard. Clipboard then passes this data to the Contextual Menu Manager.
