XL: Data Lost After Using File Conversion Wizard

SYMPTOMS

If you use the File Conversion Wizard after modifying a workbook, the changes you have just made may be lost.

CAUSE

This issue will occur when the following are true:

  • You open a workbook that is not in the Microsoft Excel 97 format.

        -and-
    
  • You modify the workbook and do not save changes.

        -and-
    
  • You then run the File Conversion Wizard on the workbook that you have modified.

WORKAROUND

To prevent this issue from occurring, ensure that you save all open workbooks before running the File Conversion Wizard.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
