XL98: Unable to Select Defined Names by Using Function Wizard

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, the Go To list may be unavailable when you use the Function Wizard. In earlier versions of Microsoft Excel, you can click a defined name in the Go To list and use it as an argument in the Function Wizard.

WORKAROUND

If you want to use defined names as arguments in the Function Wizard, type the name in the box for the argument.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

To select a defined name in a list in the Function Wizard in earlier versions of Microsoft Excel, follow these steps:

  1. On the Insert menu, click Function.

  2. Click a category in the Function Category list.

  3. Click the function you want to use in the Function Name list and click OK.

    NOTE: In Step 2 of the Function Wizard, the cursor is blinking in the box for the first argument.

  4. On the Edit menu, click Go To.

  5. Click a defined name in the Go To list and click OK.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 to use defined names for additional arguments.
