The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, if you click Object on the Insert menu, the Object Types list does not include Microsoft PowerPoint Slide or Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation. If you open a workbook that has been created in another version of Microsoft Excel and contains one or more embedded Microsoft PowerPoint presentation or slide objects, each object appears as a large red "X" or as a picture in the workbook. If you double-click one of the objects, you receive the following error message:
Cannot start the source application for this object. There may not be enough memory available. CAUSEThese problems occur because Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition does not support embedded Microsoft PowerPoint presentation or slide objects.
STATUSThis behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.
MORE INFORMATIONIn Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, if you open a workbook that contains Microsoft PowerPoint objects, make changes to the workbook, and then save the workbook, the objects still function correctly if you reopen the workbook in Microsoft Excel for Windows.
