XL97: Cannot Shut Down Windows While Excel Viewer is Running

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to shut down or restart your computer, the computer does not shut down or restart as expected.

CAUSE

This problem will occur if the Microsoft Excel 97 Viewer is running when you attempt to shut down or restart your computer. When you attempt to shut down or restart your computer, all other programs may be closed, but the Excel 97 Viewer will remain open.

WORKAROUND

To work around the problem, close the Excel 97 Viewer before you attempt to shut down or restart your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
