SUMMARY

To display the calculated value of a formula in the formula bar, do the following:

  1. Select the cell with the formula.

  2. Click the formula bar.

  3. From the Options menu, choose Calculate Now, or press COMMAND+=.

NOTE: Do not click the check mark in the formula bar unless you no longer want the formula for that cell. Clicking the X in the formula bar returns the formula to the cell. Clicking the check mark in the formula bar replaces the formula with the calculated value.

To display the calculated value of just a portion of a formula in the formula bar, do the following:

  1. Select the cell with the formula.

  2. Click the formula bar.

  3. Select the portion of the formula to be calculated. This must be a valid formula with the proper parentheses included in the selection.

  4. From the Options menu, choose Calculate Now, or press COMMAND+=.

MORE INFORMATION

The above procedure can be very helpful in debugging a formula. By calculating portions of a formula, you can determine where a problem is in the logic of the formula.
