Finding Entries Such As ="34" in an Excel Database

  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2, versions 2.2, 2.21, and 3.0

If you enter your numbers into an Excel database as text formulas, you will not be able to use a comparison criteria to find the numbers when using the Data Find command. You must use a computed criteria to find the numbers entered as text formulas. For example, suppose you had the following single field database where the field name was entered into Cell A5 and the first data record is in A6: 

   Field1
   ="45"
   ="34"
   ="67"
To use Data Find to locate the record containing ="34", your computed criteria formula would look like: =A6="34". Remember that when you use the Set Criteria command to set a computed criteria, the cell above the formula should not contain any database field names and the criteria area should include the formula and the cell above it.

NOTE: In Microsoft Excel version 5.0, if you use the AutoFilter feature, you do not have this problem.
