Excel Keyboard Selection of Print Titles for Rows and Columns

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2, versions 2.2, 2.21, and 3.0

To use the keyboard in Microsoft Excel to select a Print Title containing both rows and columns, use the following method:

  1. Move the active cell to the first row contained in the print title.

  2. Press SHIFT+SPACEBAR to select the first row.

  3. Press SHIFT+UP ARROW or SHIFT+DOWN ARROW to extend the row selection.

  4. Press SHIFT+F8 to turn on Add.

  5. Move the active cell to the first column contained in the print title. If you are using Excel version 3.00, you must move the active cell. If the active cell is positioned within the desired column already, simply press the down arrow key once and then the up arrow key to reposition the cursor in the desired cell.

  6. Press CTRL+SPACEBAR to select the first column.

  7. Press SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW or SHIFT+LEFT ARROW to extend the column selection.

  8. Microsoft Excel versions previous to version 5.00 -------------------------------------------------

    1. Press ALT+O to choose the Options menu.

    2. Press T to choose Set Print Titles.

    Microsoft Excel version 5.00 ----------------------------

    1. Press ALT+I to choose the Insert menu.

    2. Press N to choose Name, and then Press D to choose Define.

    3. In the Names In Workbook box, type "SHEET!Print_Titles" (without the

          quotation marks) where SHEET is the name of your worksheet.
    

    4. Choose OK.
