Excel: Amount of Available Free MemoryLast reviewed: November 2, 1994Article ID: Q32737 |
SUMMARYMicrosoft Excel versions 1.50 and earlier displays the amount of memory free as a percentage in the Help dialog box. In Microsoft Excel version 2.20, this figure is displayed as the number of kilobytes free. To see this information in Excel 2.20, choose About Excel from the Apple menu. The calculation of the percentage free is based on the amount of Macintosh RAM memory that is available for files. For example, if you have a 24K document and 350K of RAM available for files, Excel will display "92 percent free memory" when the file is first opened. The percentage of available free memory can also be affected by the length of time since the last Save and by the amount of time since the file was last opened. If you find that available memory is unusually low, save and close your worksheet. When you reopen the file, you should see an increase in the percentage of free memory.
