SUMMARYCharts that were created from data in Lotus 1-2-3 and modified in Microsoft Chart can be imported into Microsoft Excel. The formatting that was created in 1-2-3 and Chart will not import due to differences in the formatting commands of each program. This is because of unrecognizable formatting commands within each program. After saving the file in SYMBOLIC format and bringing the SYLK file into Microsoft Excel, the formats are visible in the first cells, but the formatting is lost. You can exchange data between each program through one of six file formats. These include WK1, WKS, DIF, SLK, CSV, or TXT. You must format the charts after the data has been imported. If you are creating similar charts in Microsoft Excel, you may want to use the Microsoft Excel macro capabilities to automate the formatting of your imported charts.
