SUMMARY

Although there is currently no macro converter or interpreter in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh for transferring or running Lotus 1-2-3 macros in Microsoft Excel, you can use the Microsoft Excel for Windows translator or the Microsoft Excel for Presentation Manager translator to convert some macros and use them with Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh.

To convert a Lotus 1-2-3 macro so that you can run it from Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh:

  1. Open the Lotus (WK1) file in Microsoft Excel for Windows (or Microsoft Excel for Presentation Manager).

  2. From the Control menu, choose Run.

  3. Select Macro Translator and choose the OK button.

Microsoft Excel for Windows translates the macro and places it on a macro sheet.

NOTE: This conversion process may create a link to the TRANS123.XLM file. To use the macro with Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, you will need to break this link. You may need to manually change or add some lines of the macro code if they are not correctly translated.

If you are using a version 2.2 or later of Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, save the file as a normal Microsoft Excel file and transfer it to the Macintosh. If you are using a version 1.5 or earlier of Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, save the file in Microsoft Excel for Windows in the SYLK file format before you transfer it to the Macintosh.

You may need to edit some of the macro steps, because there are some macro commands that are specific to Microsoft Excel for Windows that will not work in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh.
