Number Format in Attached Text Reverts to General

Microsoft Excel 2.x

If attached text contains a reference to a cell in an unopened worksheet, the value will be displayed in General format regardless of the formatting applied in the supporting worksheet.

Microsoft Excel 3.0 or 4.0

Microsoft Excel 3.0 and 4.0 display attached text correctly.

Excel 2.x

For example, assume a chart is created and text is attached and referenced to a date on the supporting worksheet, and then the chart and worksheet are closed. When you reopen the chart and update references to unopened documents, the chart label changes from "1/1/90" to "32874". When the supporting sheet is then opened, the chart label is formatted correctly.

If the cell referenced contains formatted text only, it will be displayed in General format regardless of whether the supporting sheet is open or closed.

Microsoft Excel 3.0 and 4.0

If attached text contains a reference to a cell in an unopened worksheet, the value will display properly.
