Excel 2.20 Err Msg: Can't Create Backup FileLast reviewed: November 2, 1994Article ID: Q60475 |
SUMMARYIn Microsoft Excel version 2.20, you can create a backup file by selecting the Create Backup File option under Options in the Save As dialog box on the File menu. When a backup is created, the file is named "Backup of filename", where "filename" is the name of the existing file. If the existing filename is 22 characters or longer, there is not enough room to add the "Backup of" portion to the existing name. The length of a filename is limited to 31 characters. To avoid this conflict, either rename the original file to something that is less than 22 characters long or create and name backups manually.
MORE INFORMATIONPage 82 of the "Macintosh System Software User's Guide" (version 6.0) indicates that document and folder names can be up to 31 characters. The text "Backup of" takes up 9 characters, leaving 22 available for the filename.
