Excel: Using Same Chart Configuration with New Values

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, there are two ways to transfer a particular chart configuration format (for example, text, scale, etc.) to a new set of values. These two methods are as follows:

Method 1

From the Gallery menu, choose Set Preferred while the chart with the desired configuration is open. This gives the next chart the text, arrow, legend, and gridline configuration of the last chart. However, the arrows may be misaligned and custom axis-scale information does not transfer over. To transfer all configurations, use Method 2 below.

Method 2

1. Select the worksheet that the desired chart is linked to.

2. From the File menu, choose Save As to copy the worksheet with a new name. Enter the values and information that you would like changed.

3. Open the chart with the desired configuration.

4. From the File menu, choose Save As to copy the chart with a new name.

5. From the File menu, choose Links. Highlight the old worksheet, click the Change button, and select the name of the worksheet you created in step 2.
