The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 1.5, 2.2, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 3.x, 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0, 5.0c

SUMMARY

The WKS file format used by Lotus 1-2-3 and Ashton-Tate dBASE saves only 2048 rows of information. This is a limitation of the WKS file format.

To transfer a file that is larger than 2048 rows, save the file in either text or the WK1 format, depending on what is supported by the destination application. Microsoft Excel versions 1.5 and later support the WK1 and text formats. Microsoft Excel versions 1.06 and earlier support text format.

For more information on the file formats supported by Microsoft Excel, see page 309 in the "Microsoft Excel User's Guide 2," version 4.0 manual. If you are using version 3.0, see page 665 in the "Microsoft Excel User's Guide" version 3.0 manual. If you are using Excel 2.2, see pages 275-276 in the "Microsoft Excel Reference" version 2.2 manual.
